  • Creating a Serene Home

by Ace admin Published February 10, 2012

With the hustle and bustle of the world today, your home should be your escape. There are many ways to ensure that your home offers a feeling of serenity to you, your family, and your guests. For a home to feel truly serene, it should appeal to the senses.

Lighting—We naturally react to levels of light. Bright lighting promotes alertness and activity, while dim lighting can relax and ease. Installing dimming switches throughout your home allows for any area to be easily transformed into a place of activity or peace.

Noise—Although some people thoroughly enjoy complete silence, many people cannot stand absolute quiet. Background noises such as fans, sound machines, water fountains, and gentle chimes are wonderful sounds to fill the air without rattling the brain.

Aroma—Smells have a strong effect on our feelings. Coffee, for example, has the ability to perk you up, while lavender can help you relax. These scents can be produced from candles or air fresheners. Even the simple aroma of fresh air through a cracked window can work wonders in refreshing a home.

Color—Blues, purples, greens, and earthy tones are all favorites when it comes to creating a serene atmosphere. These colors are known to invoke reminders of nature, such as tranquil skies, deep forests, and warmth. Mix and matching these hues throughout your home provides a peaceful décor.

Comfort—It is important for a home to not only look comfortable, but feel comfortable. Rich fabrics such as velvet, silk, and satin as well as welcoming bed linens, curtains, and carpets put the finishing touches on a serene home.
